In 2007, we retained IQS Research to survey the general public in Metro Louisville to determine awareness of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, the perception of the importance of the school to the community, the knowledge of what engineers do and the importance of the work of engineers to society. The IQS study was well designed and executed in a timely manner, and the results guided the formulation of a public relations campaign for the school. We subsequently retained IQS to re-survey the general public in 2012, and that study showed that the “Without engineers . . .” campaign has been effective in increasing awareness of our school and the perception of the importance of the engineering profession in the everyday lives of people.
